Electric locomotive type EF 1, number 4514. This broad gauge (5'6") locomotive ran on the Great Indian Peninsula Railway. Most GIPR trains were hauled by steam traction at this time, although some of the busier lines were electrified in the 1920s and 1930s. The GIPR was opened in 1853, from Bombay to Thane. It expanded quickly and by 1870 stretched all the way across India to Calcutta.
