This bridge has just been rebuilt after the old bridge was washed away in 1926. The old bridge can be seen to the left of the photograph. This bridge was on the Great Indian Peninsula Railway which opened in 1853, from Bombay to Thane. It expanded quickly and by 1870 stretched all the way across India to Calcutta.
