Brush Electric locomotive number D5500 with a passenger train leaving Liverpool Street, 11 November 1957. Liverpool Street was the busiest terminus in London, dealing with thousands of passengers every day. The lines out of the station were electrified in the 1940s, to provide a faster and more efficient service. Diesel traction was also becoming increasingly common at this time.
