Driver in a D35 class 4-4-0 locomotive, about 1900. This locomotive ran on the North British Railway. Locomotives were painted "works grey" when they were first manufactured. The new locomotives were photographed and it was thought that the detail would show up better if they were grey. When the locomotive had been photographed it was repainted in the railway company's colours, with their logo and name on the side.
