Passengers waiting for a train on a Great Eastern Railway station platform. The GER was formed in 1862, by the amalgamation of several smaller companies. It served towns in East Anglia and in Eastern England, stretching all the way to Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. The GER was amalgamated into the London & North Eastern Railway in 1923.
