This photograph was one of a series taken to advertise holidays in Cornwall, at locations served by the Great Western Railway's lines. Photographs like this were often displayed inside railway carriages. St Ives was a popular holiday resort at this time and in the summer the town was crowded with tourists. People visited Cornwall to sit on the beach, admire the scenery and walk along cliffs and along the sea front.
