This photograph was one of a series taken to advertise holidays in Cornwall, at locations served by the Great Western Railway's lines. Photographs like this were often displayed inside railway carriages. St Ives was a popular holiday resort at this time and in the summer the town was crowded with tourists. One is seen here, wearing a straw boater, watching the fishermen.
