The Torbay Express pulled by a 4-6-0 steam locomotive. This train ran on a very popular route, leaving Paddington at noon every day and arriving at Torquay 3 hours and 50 minutes later. A section of track at Dawlish ran along the sea front, and was often flooded when the tide was high in the winter.
