The newly built waiting room at Maidenhead station, Berkshire, 30 June 1943. Waiting rooms were often cold and draughty and sparsely decorated although some had fires in the winter. Large stations had different waiting rooms for first, second and third class passengers, but smaller stations such as Maidenhead had only one general waiting room for all its passengers.
