'Seventy-eight-year-old Mr Sydney Dowdeswell at work in the garden he has created out of shells, concrete, glass and porcelain at Hindlip, Worcestershire, over the past 40 years. Clearly seen is that this is no ordinary garden. Neatly clipped privet hedges give way to tiny houses, castles, figures and ornamental ponds, with splashes of colour provided by immaculate flower beds. A man with an independent outlook on life - he will not allow anyone to help him in the garden - Mr Dowdeswell said that once he started he just couldn't stop adding to his fascinating workpiece.'
