A photograph of Kenyan Asian families arriving at Heathrow airport, taken by Childs for the Daily Herald newspaper in about 1967. Between 1968 and 1974 more than 70,000 Kenyan and Ugandan Asians arrived in the UK. The Commonwealth Immigrants Bill (1968) was put before Parliament and quickly passed. This Act was designed to limit the entry of Kenyan Asians - including those who held British passports. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
