A photograph of the Ministry of Information Press Room, taken by James Jarche for the Daily Herald newspaper on 16 December, 1939. From the very beginning of the war the British government tried to keep a tight control on the reporting of the war. Journalists had to queue up at the Ministry of Information to get official press releases. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
