A photograph of a young woman, Louise Denny, arriving at Victoria Station, London, having travelled from Barbados, taken by Lauder for the Daily Herald newspaper on 4 January, 1955. Many Caribbeans emigrated to Britain in the 1950s and 1960s due to the offer of jobs with companies such as London Transport or in the new National Health Service. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
