Family on a barge, on the Grand Union canal at Watford, Hertfordshire, 1950. The Grand Union canal was built from 1790 to 1929 and is an amalgamation of several canals between Birmingham and London. By the 1950s the canal was no longer heavily used for the transportation of freight, but the canal is now popular with tourists and holiday makers.
