Track workers at Halifax station, 30 August 1912. At this time all track work was done manually. Track was lifted with jacks and put into place by hand. Workers worked in small teams under a foreman, looking after short areas of track. The workers examined the track twice a day, checking for cracks, loose bolts and worn rails.
