Description

Map showing the harbour and part of the town of the Scottish fishing port of Aberdeen. Also included are the wet dock or floating harbour, flood channels and River Dee. Below are diagrams of the construction and foundations of the new wharfs. Thomas Telford (1757-1834) extended the harbour, increasing the depth of water and thus improving trade. Aberdeen Harbour was the first publicly limited company in the United Kingdom. Illustration from Telford's 'Atlas to the Life of Thomas Telford, civil engineer', published in London in 1838.
