"Engraving by Malbeste after a drawing by Conte taken from 'Description de l'Egypte, ou Recueil des observations et des recherches qui ont ete faites en Egypte pendant l'Expedition de l'Armee francaise' (Description of Egypt, or Collection of the observations and the research which were made in Egypt during the expedition of the French Army) (Paris, 1809-1830). Five scenes are shown: two men preparing cotton for spinning; a man and a woman spinning and dividing wool ready for weaving; two men turning wood and working with metal. The book documents Napoleon's (1769-1821) military and scientific expedition to Egypt in 1798. Baron Dominique Vivant Denon (1747-1825) headed a group of the leading scholars, artists and scientists of the day who accompanied the expedition."
