Locomotive number 723 with an express train at Cromford station, Derbyshire, 24 April 1911. The Midland Railway was noted for its stations' architecture and even small stations often had elaborate buildings. Cromford station was elaborate as it served many country estates belonging to the gentry. The station building on the right, built around 1850, has a steep roof and a pointed turret, built in French style.
