Page of text with a woodcut of the Sun from 'De fabrica, et usu hemisphaerii uranici' (On the construction and use of the Uranical hemisphere) by Giovanni Paolo Gallucci (1538-c 1621), published in Venice in 1596. The book describes the method of constructing and using observational instruments and sundials. Gallucci helped to popularise the use of gnomonic (pertaining to sundials) instruments during the 16th century.
