Engraving by J Chapman after Vaillant, of a group of Nama people who come from an area which includes Namaqualand (in Western South Africa) and Namibia. The term 'hottentots' was used to describe them in the past but is now deemed offensive. Illustration from 'Encyclopaedia Londinensis, or, Universal Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and Literature' published in London, 1810-1829.
