The cover shows a man operating a machine, with vignettes of scientific and natural phenomena. 'Marvels of Electricity and Magnetism', by Henry Frith (b 1840), published in New York sometime in the 1880s, was one of a series of popular science books written by Frith and entitled 'The marvels of...'. It is one of many books on electricity and magnetism written for the general public in the late nineteenth century. Many publishers used bright, decorative covers such as this for popular and children's books.
