William Henry Fox Talbot is widely recognised as the founder of modern photography. Talbot spent most of his life at Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire, where he conducted the majority of his experiments with photography. As a child he excelled in languages and mathematics, and being a precocious scholar his interests widened to include botany, chemistry, optics, and philology.
