A photographic view of the Priory Gatehouse in Great Malvern, Worcestershire, published by Francis Bedford & Co. The Priory is a mixture of Norman and Perpendicular Gothic architecture, having been founded in 1085 and added to through the centuries. The Gatehouse, part of the old Benedictine monastery, dates back to c 1480 and currently houses a museum. Bedford (1816-1894) was a prolific and well-respected photographer, best known for his numerous topographic and architectural views of Britain. He was asisted by his son, William (1846-1893) whose work is almost indistinguishable from that of his father.
