A photographic view of Llandudno Pier on the north coast of Wales. A group of holidaymakers sits under umbrellas on the right. The pier opened in 1878 having taken just over a year to construct. Photograph published by Francis Bedford & Co. Francis Bedford (1816-1894) was a prolific and well-respected photographer of the mid-19th century, best known for his many topographic and architectural views of Britain. From the 1870s onwards, his son, William (1846-1893) seems to have assumed responsibility for running the family business and many photographs of this later period are more likely to be the work of William rather than that of his father.
