A photographic portrait of Antoine Francois Jean Claudet (1797-1867), taken at the studio of Maull & Polyblank, London, in about 1855. By the mid-1850s, Maull & Polyblank had become renowned for their publications of celebrity portraits. Antoine Claudet was born in Lyons, France, but moved to London in 1829. In June 1841 he opened the second photographic portrait studio in Britain, on the roof of the Adelaide Gallery near Trafalgar Square in London.
