A photograph of ice skaters on a frozen Serpentine Lake in London's Hyde Park, taken by Saidman for the Daily Herald newspaper on 23 January, 1940. The skaters were taking part in a production entitled 'The Ballet of Youth'. January 1940 was the coldest month in Britain since 1895. In London, the Thames froze over for the first time since 1880. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
