A photograph of a wedding held taken by Tomlin for the Daily Herald newspaper on 2 April, 1935. In military weddings, a guard of honour in uniform stand in two lines outside the church entrance. Holding up their drawn swords to form an archway, the bride and groom walk under this 'arch of swords' as they leave the church. Built in the early eighteenth century, St Martin-in-the-Fields stands just off Trafalgar Square. The church's Social Care Unit has provided a service to rough sleepers and others for more than fifty years. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
