A photograph of a woman wrapped in a copy of the Daily Herald newspaper, taken by James Jarche for the Daily Herald newspaper on 9 July, 1934. This photograph was used as publicity for a Daily Herald music contest. The woman, a member of The Jackson Girls singing group, was photographed at Rochford Farm, Essex. Pres photographs were often cropped or altered before appearing in print to enhance their impact or appeal. Here, the majority of the hay wagon in the background has been blanked out, and a young man on the right removed from the photograph altogether. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
