A photograph of two Welsh gold miners relaxing in the sunshine outside Dolaucothi Gold Mines, Pumsaint near Llandovery, Wales, taken by James Jarche for the Daily Herald newspaper on 5 July, 1934. Gold has been mined at Dolaucothi since Roman times. The mines were opened up again by the Victorians and continued in use until World War Two. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
