A photograph of sewing machinists at work, taken by James Jarche for the Daily Herald newspaper on 24 November, 1933. These women sewing machinists are busy making up clothes in a large, well-lit factory. Workers in the clothing industry at the time were not always so fortunate - many being forced to work in dirty, cramped and badly lit environments. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
