A photograph of passengers on a London General Omnibus reading the front page of the Daily Herald, taken by Woodbine for the Daily Herald newspaper on 18 January, 1933. The newspaper led on - 'Our Gigantic Scheme To Help Hospitals' - the Herald's promotional 'Help the Hospitals Contest'. In this prize draw, buying a 6d ticket could win £25,000 worth of prizes. All the proceeds from ticket sales would go to support English hospitals. The National Health Service was not set up until the 1940s. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
