A photograph of staff in an operating theatre at St Bartholomew's Hospital, Fleet Street, London, taken by Cardew for the Daily Herald newspaper on 22 January, 1932. Dresed in surgical masks and gowns, these hospital staff prepare equipment and instruments for an operation. St Barts was founded as a hospital in 1123. The hospital continues to be a centre of excellence for cancer and cardiac care. This photograph has been selected from the Daily Herald Archive, a collection of over three million photographs. The archive holds work of international, national and local importance by both staff and agency photographers.
