The London & North Eastern Railway P2 class 2-8-2 locomotive number 2001 ""Cock o' the North"" at Doncaster works, 11 July 1934. This locomotive was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley. They were used mainly on the line between Edinburgh and Aberdeen which had steep gradients. Before these P2 locomotives, heavy trains needed two locomotives on this stretch of the London & North Eastern Railway line.
