A lock of hair bound with gold thread and encased in a gold locket, created by an unknown maker in about 1850. The exterior of the gold locket has an intricate engraving of flowers and leaves and the dedication 'FCB to EMB, Jan'y 5th 1855'. The locket also contains a photographic portrait of a man, presumably FCB. Photographic jewellery quickly became popular in the early days of photography as a decorative and personal way to display pictures of loved ones.
