An engraving by Edwin A Abbey of a sketch by Thomas Worth, from 'Harper's Weekly' magazine, 16 December, 1871, showing an itinerant photographer and his mobile studio. The photographer's caravan served as his studio, darkroom and living accommodaion. Itinerant operators visited communities too small or remote to support a permanent photographic studio, staying for just a few days before moving on.
