A photographic portrait of four generations of the Danish royal family, taken by W & D Downey. King Christian IX (1818-1906), and, seated, Queen Louise (1817-1898), are pictured with their daughter Alexandra, Princes of Wales (1844-1925) who stands at the back. Alexandra was the wife of Prince Albert, the future King Edward VII (1841-1910). Alexandra's daughter Louisa, Princes Royal and Duches of Fife (1867-1931), kneels at the right. Her daughter, Lady Alexandra Duff (1891-1959), is the young girl on the knee of her great-grandmother. This photograph appears in 'The Cabinet Portrait Gallery' series of celebrity portraits and biographies published in the 1890s. The series includes royalty, actors, academics and authors.
