A photographic portrait of the Mises Dene taken by W. and D. Downey in 1893. Dorothy Dene was a popular and succesful actor, and a leading light in the Shakespearian Company performing at the Globe Theatre. Photographed here with her sisters, also actors, Dorothy is presumably the woman reflected in the mirrors - indicating her status as the most famous of the family group. This photograph appears in 'The Cabinet Portrait Gallery' series of celebrity portraits and biographies published in the 1890s. The series includes royalty, actors, academics and authors.
