A photographic portrait of George William Frederick Charles, the second Duke of Cambridge (1819-1904), taken by W & D Downey. Grandson of George III and cousin to Queen Victoria, the Duke, a Field Marshal, was Commander-in-Chief of the Horse Guards and a respected military figure. This photograph appears in 'The Cabinet Portrait Gallery' series of celebrity portraits and biographies published in the 1890s. The series includes royalty, actors, academics and authors.
