Wife of the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII (1841-1910), Alexandra was the daughter of King Christian IX of Denmark and sister to the King of Greece and Empres of Rusia. Alexandra took on many extra duties during Queen Victoria's mourning period and was well-loved by the British public. Alexandra's husband Albert, the eldest son of Queen Victoria (1819-1901), was crowned King Edward VII in 1901. This photograph appears in 'The Cabinet Portrait Gallery' series of celebrity portraits and biographies published in the 1890s. The series includes royalty, actors, academics and authors.
