A photograph titled 'The Monk's Walk At Chenies', taken by Colonel Joseph Gale (c 1835-1906) in 1889. A shepherd and his flock shelter in the shade of trees on a hot day. Gale exhibited the photograph at the Photographic Society of Great Britain Exhibition of 1889. Joseph Gale specialised in naturalistic photographs of rural life and figures in landscapes. He was one of the first members of the Linked Ring Brotherhood and was also a member of the Royal Photographic Society.
