A photograph of a country road and two horse-drawn trailers, taken by Colonel Joseph Gale (c 1835-1906) in about 1890. The man with the horses in the foreground has dismounted, helping to steer them around a large puddle. A second man leans over a bridge on the right to talk to the first. Joseph Gale specialised in naturalistic photographs of rural life and figures in landscapes. He was one of the first members of the Linked Ring Brotherhood and was also a member of the Royal Photographic Society.
