A Kodak circular snapshot photograph of a Hansom Cab waiting outside 11 Montague Place, London, taken by an unknown photographer in 1888. The first Hansom Cab was built and patented in 1834 by Joseph Hansom, an architect from Leicestershire, England. Known as the Hansom Safety Cab, its purpose was to combine speed with safety, with a low centre of gravity that was essential for safe cornering and overtaking.
