A gold framed pendant encasing a lock of hair, created by an unknown maker in about 1850. This is the reverse side of a pendant that also contains the photographic portrait of a woman, to whom this lock of hair presumably belongs. This pendant was probably given to her husband, as a token of her love. Photographic jewellery quickly became popular in the early days of photography as a decorative and personal way to display pictures of loved ones.
