This settlement was the headquarters and main supply depot for the fur trading activities of the Hudson's Bay Company. Illustration from 'Reports of explorations and surveys: to ascertain the most practicable and economical route for a railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean' published by the United States War Department in 1856 and 1860. This work reported on the topographical features and geology of the country, and on the Native American tribes inhabiting it.
