Description

Engraved plate by Victor after Lesson, from 'Voyage autour du monde', ('Voyage round the world') by Louis Isidore Duperrey (1826). These tropical fish were found in the seas around Tahiti, now part of French Polynesia), and New Ireland, now part of Papua New Guinea. Duperrey (1786-1865), a French marine hydrographer, was the commander of the 'Coquille' during its voyage (1822-1825) to Chile, Peru, Polynesia, the Molucca Islands (Indonesia), New Ireland (Papua New Guinea) and Australia.
