Engraved plate by Coutant after Vauthier, from 'Voyage autour du monde', ('Voyage round the world') by Louis Isidore Duperrey (1826). The examples shown here are: Nymphalis Geoffroyii, Guer; Argynnis pulchra, Guer; Argynnis Gabertii, Guer; and Argynnis tristis, Guer. They are found in Australia and the South Pacific. Duperrey (1786-1865), a French marine hydrographer, was the commander of the 'Coquille' during its voyage (1822-1825) to Chile, Peru, Polynesia, the Molucca Islands (Indonesia), New Ireland (Papua New Guinea) and Australia.
