Description

Engraved plate three by Coutant after Prevost, from 'Voyage autour du monde' ('Voyage round the world') by Louis Isidore Duperrey (1826), showing a sea lion and illustrations of a canine tooth and the skull. Duperrey (1786-1865), a French marine hydrographer, was the commander of the 'Coquille' during its world voyage (1822-1825) which included Chile, Peru, Polynesia, the Molucca Islands (Indonesia), New Ireland (Papua New Guinea) and Australia.
