Hand-coloured engraving of (top) a ram from Guinea which has longer legs than the European ram, no wool but short hair like a dog's, and long floppy ears. It was also known as the Chinese ram. Below is the five-horned Icelandic ram. Both these specimens were exhibited on the boulevards of Paris in 1774. This work on the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdoms of nature, by Pierre-Joseph Buc'hoz (1731-1807), was published in Paris between 1775 and 1781.
