Model (scale 1:10). Vesels of this type were used for transporting a body acros the Nile to the western bank, for burial. The actual boat on which this model is based was unearthed in 1893 from beside the northern pyramid of Dashur, which dates from about 2000 BC, and was preserved in the Cairo Museum. In the original boat, upper portions of the ends have perished, but as they probably served only as decoration, they have been omitted in the model.
