One of a series of colour lithographs drawn and engraved by Draner called 'Types Militaires'. This one is entitled 'France 1864 - Officier Superieur du Genie' and shows an elderly French soldier in front of a fireplace. On top of the fireplace is an Argand lamp and a candlestick. To the left are drawing plans in a wall rack, a sword, a plate camera, chemical apparatus and a bellows. On the right side are t-square dividers and geometric stencils hanging on the wall; easels; a basket of rolled up papers; and a globe.
